Overview
As one of the most influential business organizations in Colombia, the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce (CCB) plays a critical role in supporting and enabling economic activity in the region. With a growing portfolio of digital services, CCB faced an urgent need to modernize its legacy infrastructure to meet the demands of a digital-first business landscape. Partnering with Blend and AWS, the Chamber executed a seamless migration to the cloud, ensuring high availability, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
Challenge
The digital modernization initiative was driven by several key challenges:
- Legacy Infrastructure: The Chamber’s systems relied on aging middleware and databases, creating operational bottlenecks and limiting scalability.
- Limited Observability: Lack of end-to-end tracing and monitoring made it difficult to identify performance issues or optimize service delivery.
- Regulatory Compliance: CCB needed to meet local compliance standards while transitioning its systems to a new technology environment.
These challenges hindered agility, increased the risk of downtime, and limited the institution’s ability to evolve with the needs of its stakeholders.
Solution
To address these challenges, the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce adopted a multi-phase modernization strategy built on AWS technologies:
- Seamless Migration with AWS Migration Hub and AWS Application Migration Service (MGN): The team used AWS Migration Hub to coordinate and monitor migration activities and AWS MGN to rehost workloads with minimal downtime. This approach ensured full visibility and alignment during the cloud transition.
- Disaster Recovery with AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery (DRS): Implemented AWS DRS to provide continuous data replication and rapid failover capabilities, enabling resilience and business continuity.
- Scalable Compute and Data Services with Amazon EC2, ECS, and RDS: Core applications were re-architected using Amazon EC2 for scalable compute, Amazon ECS for containerized microservices, and Amazon RDS for managed relational databases.
- Network Efficiency with AWS Transit Gateway: Deployed AWS Transit Gateway to centralize and manage network connectivity across multiple VPCs and environments, improving scalability and security.
- AWS Enterprise Support: The engagement was supported by AWS Enterprise Support to apply architectural best practices and mitigate risk throughout the migration process.
Impact
The cloud transformation delivered immediate and measurable benefits:
- Improved System Uptime: Achieved 99.99% availability across all critical services.
- Zero Downtime During Migration: Completed full data center migration with no interruptions to critical operations.
- Faster Deployments: Reduced deployment time from development to production by 75%, accelerating service innovation.
- Fewer Application Issues: Post-migration monitoring revealed a 62% drop in reported issues, improving service stability and user satisfaction.
- Increased Scalability: The new architecture supports rapid scaling to meet fluctuating service demand across Bogotá’s business ecosystem.
- Rapid Execution: The full migration was completed in just six months, demonstrating operational discipline and strategic clarity.
