Overview
In a bold move to modernize Colombia’s judiciary system, the Superior Council of the Judiciary partnered with our team to transform its critical digital infrastructure. The initiative focused on enhancing accessibility, security, and operational performance to deliver faster, more reliable services to citizens and stakeholders across the country. By migrating to the AWS Cloud and adopting a data-centric architecture, the judiciary laid the foundation for a scalable, secure, and future-ready digital justice system.
Challenge
Before modernization, the judiciary system faced several key obstacles:
- Outdated Infrastructure: Legacy on-premise systems limited performance, scalability, and innovation.
- High Security Demands: Sensitive legal data required advanced cybersecurity and compliance measures.
- Limited Accessibility: Geographic and technological constraints hindered the judiciary’s ability to serve all citizens efficiently.
These challenges created delays, increased operational costs, and limited the impact of digital services in the judicial sector.
Solution
To overcome these challenges, a comprehensive modernization strategy was executed with AWS at the core:
- Cloud Infrastructure Modernization: Core judiciary applications were migrated to the cloud using Amazon EC2 for scalable, secure computing and AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery for resilience—ensuring flexibility, high availability, and improved performance.
- Enhanced Data Management: Structured and unstructured data were centralized in Amazon S3, enabling cost-efficient storage, while AWS RDS ensured reliability and performance for critical judicial databases. AWS DataSync facilitated high-speed migration of data with minimal disruption.
- Strengthened Security: Advanced threat protection was implemented using Amazon CloudWatch for real-time monitoring and alerting, combined with built-in encryption, proactive observability, and disaster recovery strategies to safeguard sensitive judiciary information.
- Improved Accessibility: Digital resources were re-architected for national delivery, leveraging Amazon QuickSight to enable real-time visibility and interactive dashboards.
Impact
The transformation delivered tangible improvements across the judiciary’s operations:
- Enhanced Service Availability: Achieved 99.9% uptime across judiciary platforms, significantly improving system reliability.
- Improved Data Accessibility: Reduced response times for judiciary processes with scalable storage and optimized delivery systems.
- Strengthened Security: Proactively mitigated DDoS threats, ensuring uninterrupted access to critical judiciary applications.
- Greater Collaboration: Enabled over 100 secure integrations with external systems to improve inter-agency coordination.
